We have known that since we got them, our turtles are both males and too big to be tank sharing. However it cost quite a bit to get the tank set up properly for them together and we couldn't foresee spending the money to set up 2 tanks just to move in a year or so and then give them away hoping that the new owners research them and feed them properly. After our first trip to the park we knew this would be a perfect place for them, there were turtles of all sizes, fish of all sizes, birds and lots of people with full sacks of bread or chips or other treats to feed the animals. We weren't going to do this until we were ready to move but when we told the kids we were going to the park to feed the fish the boys jumped and yelled excitedly, "We are taking Boney & Crusher back to their families!!!!" so we did it. The only person who cried was me... I know pathetic but I really did love these guys. All the turtles there looked so healthy and they both were so excited when I put them close to the water, one of them even started chasing fish to eat immediately, while the other one chilled on a rock under a lily pad for a while before swimming off. I was sad to see them go and honestly felt the urge to jump in after them but after watching them, they seemed so happy. I am sure we did the right thing by them, most people aren't going to spend the $20+ per week on them (I loved them and some weeks I didn't make the effort to get all of their fresh food). Now when we go and feed the fish we can look out for them, I bet they will grow fast there!

Your silly Mom almost cried looking at the release pictures. I'm glad the kids didn't react like I would have. Think you are right - it was the best for them. They will do great there.
