A few weeks ago I was talking to mom on the phone. We must've been talking about baking b/c somehow Korbin got on the kick to bake a pie again. Baking pie's is something Korbin loves to do, he enjoys making cookies, brownies, cakes... but pies are something he absolutely LOVES making. Which is kind of funny b/c I"m not a pie person, now cobblers, that is another story but I'm not much on pies. Especially fruit pies. He decided that night he wanted to make a raisin pie, which is something I had never heard of. Mom's dear friend Kathy was visiting her and got in on the conversation, on Friday we got a letter from her with several recipes for raisin pie!!! I read through the recipes and let him choose the one he wanted to try. He chose the one that had sour cream in it, b/c he loves sour cream.
So yesterday we tackled our raisin pie, he basically did every thing from measuring the ingredients to stirring them and putting it in the crust. We cheated and used a pre-made crust you just roll out and bake but other than that it was Korbin's thing. Oh and I made the meringue for the top. My meringue fell but tasted fine so the pie wasn't the prettiest but it sure was tasty. He was heartbroken that nobody took a piece at the BBQ last night (I forgot to ask if a couple pieces could be taken out just so he could see someone had tried it...oops) So he cried about that, but this morning we tore into it for our "mother's day" breakfast. It was super tasty and I think it will appear on Next years Thanksgiving menu!

I laughed and laughed at your comment! Raisin pie??!! Wow, didn't even know there was such a thing! That is so cool that Korbin is into cooking...you need to try Symphony Brownies...simply amazing in my opinon!
Happy mother's day! You are an awesome mommy to take the time to make a pie with your 4 year old little boy! wow.
Tell Korbin that I thought his pie looked delicious!
Happy Mother's Day to one of the greatest moms I know. I love you so much and I am so proud of you.
I think you should try Paula Deans Chocolate Chip Pie. I know my bff well enough to know that you will loooove it. A great compromise for you and KK!
Miss you tons. Sorry I couldn't talk when you called. We were at my dad's house. I called you this morning but you were offline so I figured you had turned the phone off and gone to bed. Hopefully we can chat tomorrow. xoxo
move over emeril...i think korbin needs a show. he could teach other boys how to cook. my husband could watch. hehehe.
that sounds so fun. I love to cook with kids!
oh and julie..i love paula dean. doesn't she just seem so cute!
eli's hair is definitely red for now. especially in the sunshine or if the light is hitting right.
i'll have to check out that food website. I've never seen it actually. I just have a book about homemade babyfood.
I feel Korbin's pain. I once took my super favorite cake to one of Dave's work BBQs and I heard one lady say to another with a note of disdain in her voice "oh, it's some lemon thing." Yeah? It's MY lemon thing, lady! Glad the family enjoyed the pie! Everyone else missed out.
